Course Overview
The Mastering the Complicated Knee course is a one-day Cadaver Lab experience designed for Orthopaedic Surgeons, Fellows, Residents and PAs who want to refine their surgical techniques, strengthen their decision making and learn directly from experienced Faculty.
Built around individualized learning, the course allows you to focus on the procedures and techniques most relevant to your practice. Through extensive Cadaver Lab training, live demonstrations and case-based discussion, you'll gain practical experience and technical pearls you can immediately apply in the OR.

Jason L. Koh, M.D., FAANA, is a nationally recognized sports medicine surgeon with more than three decades of experience advancing arthroscopic techniques and mentoring Orthopaedic Surgeons through education, research and clinical practice.
Miho J. Tanaka, M.D., Ph.D.
Miho J. Tanaka, M.D., Ph.D., is Director of the Women's Sports Medicine Program at Massachusetts General Hospital and an internationally recognized expert in patellofemoral disorders, knee biomechanics and arthroscopic sports medicine.

Learning Objectives
- Describe the current evidence-based principles, indications and technical considerations for arthroscopic and open knee procedures, including meniscal preservation, ligament reconstruction and cartilage restoration.
- Demonstrate improved competence in performing advanced knee arthroscopy techniques, including diagnostic arthroscopy, meniscus resection and repair, graft harvest and single-stage cartilage procedures.
- Apply anatomic and biomechanical principles to surgical management of knee instability, including ACL, PCL, MCL, posterolateral corner and patellofemoral instability.
- Integrate contemporary reconstruction strategies for complex and multiligament knee injuries, including MPFL repair, imbrication and reconstruction, as well as MQTFL reconstruction.
- Utilize case-based reasoning to guide surgical decision-making for complex knee pathology, including ligamentous instability, meniscal injury patterns and focal cartilage defects.
- Evaluate individual learning needs and select personalized procedural goals to enhance technical proficiency and improve patient outcomes in knee surgery.

The primary target audience for the Mastering the Complicated Knee course is Orthopaedic Surgeons, Fellows, Residents, PAs and other healthcare professionals who desire to improve their arthroscopic knowledge, competence, performance and patient outcomes.

AANA has determined the need for this live educational activity based on identifying professional practice gaps, previous course evaluations and the AANA Self-Assessment Examination. The educational content of this activity was based upon current issues and topics provided by AANA Planning Committees and Membership.

Air Travel and Ground Transportation
Please fly into O'Hare International Airport. A shuttle to the Hampton Inn and Suites picks up every 45 minutes from the Bus/Shuttle Center. Follow the signs from baggage claim.

- How do I know whether I am registered for a course?
If you have completed the online registration, you should receive a confirmation immediately.
- Am I an AANA Member?
Please email us at membership@aana.org to check your status.
- What is the refund/cancellation policy for a course?
Refunds are subject to a non-refundable $500.00 processing fee and must be made four weeks prior to the start of the course. Cancellations must be made four weeks prior to a course. All refunds and cancellations must be written and sent to the AANA office.
- Can I transfer to another course?
You may switch courses within the same year, space permitting, by notifying the AANA office in writing at least four weeks prior to the course. A $200.00 transfer fee will apply.
- How do I request a letter of invitation?
You will need to register for the course and pay for it prior to receiving a letter of invitation. Once you have registered for the course, please email us at info@aana.org.
- Will there be bilingual instructors at each course?
Instructors vary from course to course. It is in the best interest of the registrant to speak and understand English.
- Can I attend a course if I’m not an AANA member?
Yes, AANA Courses are available to all Orthopaedic Surgeons.
- Is housing included in the course registration fee?
No, housing is not included in the registration fee. For your convenience, AANA has a hotel block at the Hampton Inn & Suites Rosemont Chicago O'Hare for each course.
- What airport should I fly into?
Please fly into O'Hare International Airport (ORD).
- How far is the Hampton Inn from the OLC?
The Hampton Inn & Suites is about 100 meters from the OLC.
- What is the course attire?
The attire is casual, mainly scrubs being in and out of the lab.
- Can Residents attend courses other than the Foundations in Arthroscopy courses?
